Examining immigration issues

With the election of President Donald Trump, illegal immigration has become even more of a hot-button issue, and the USA Today network has led the way with aggressive coverage.

In order to gain better insight on controversial border crossings, Joanne Lipman, Chief Content Officer for USA Today network and Randy Lovely, VP of Community News, led a small group of editors to the border town of Nogales, Mexico. I was part of the June 2017 team that visited to learn about the illegal border-crossing issue first-hand.

The trip laid the the groundwork for a far-reaching newsroom project that promises to shed new light on this divisive issue.
