What drives me…
With more than 30 years of experience, I've had the opportunity to lead some of the best journalists in the country. My strength lies in building teams, developing leaders, and setting a vision for success. The best leaders set the direction, hire and promote smart operators and get the hell out of the way.
I'm not your typical editor who frets over every minute story detail. While that is well within my wheelhouse, I'm just as interested in sustaining and growing our business. How can we compel an audience to visit our platform multiple times each day with content they find impossible to put down? What platforms best tell that story beyond long-form narratives?
I'm just as interested and engaged in the P&L as I am in the story budget. We have to innovate in ways that stretch us beyond what we know today.
Finally, how will we use technology like AI in meaningful and ethical ways to help with tasks that have become too menial for reporters to do? We can't be afraid of the unknown.
I'm the kind of leader who sees the landscape from the trenches to the treetops. Doing so gives me a unique perspective that balances immediate needs with long-term transformation, ensuring we not only adapt to journalism's future but actively shape it. — Hollis R. Towns
