Diversity in action—politics, policy and development

I had a great conversation recently with Egbert Perry, CEO of Integral Group, a major Atlanta developer, for his podcast; Create the Village, about the recent Georgia elections from my perspective as a former AJC reporter and resident of the state and now a Gannett editor.

Our convo went something like this; Many of the demographic shifts at the forefront of Georgia’s current political landscape began 25 years ago. The changes were largely chronicled in my work covering how the Olympics served as an opportunity to reimagine the city’s crime-ridden public housing into mixed-income communities, an experiment that revitalized dozens of neighborhoods and ultimately swept the nation as the Atlanta Model. Those early efforts, among others, helped to turn Georgia blue.
